Gardening by the Lunar Calendar
We all know that there are four main moon phases during a month, but few people know that all this phases have a vast influence in plants and gardening. Now we will explain you each phase, its preponderance and how it affects your harvest.
- New Moon: because this period is characterized through pulling the water up by the lunar gravity it makes seed to burst and swell. It’s the best time to plant annual crops that produce the seeds outside their fruits. (Example : cabbage, broccoli and grains)
- Second Quarter: the moon gravitational power becomes lesser but still the moonlight is very strong and determines a nice growing of leafs. Plants that must be planted in this phase are melons, tomatoes, peppers and peas.
- Full Moon: Because the gravitational force is high again soil is being moisture better putting more energy to the roots. This period is the perfect time to plant root crops in your garden. (Example: potatoes, onions, carrots, garlic etc.)
- Fourth Quarter: also known as Resting period; with low moonlight and gravitation. It’s better to do some harvesting and cultivating rather planting.
