The Islamic calendar, also known as the Muslim or Hijiri calendar, is the only widespread calendar used today that is a true lunar calendar. This means it is a calendar based off of 12 lunar months with 354 or 255 days in a year. It is used by Muslims all around the world to determine the Islamic days of holiness and other traditional Islamic festivals. The first year on the Islamic calendar was the year in which the profhet Muhammad emigrated from Mecca to Medina, known as the Hijira. Currently, the Islamic calendar is on year 1431.

The twelve lunar months of the Islamic calendar are Muharram, Safar, Rabi’al-awwal, Rabi’ al-thani, Jumada al-Ula, Jumada al-Thani, Rjab, Sha’aban, Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhua al-Qui’dah, and Dua al-Hijjah. Of these twelve months, Ramadan is the most recognized and is a time in which Muslims go without eating, drinking, and sexual activity during the daylight of each day of the month.

The Islamic lunar calendar used to have great significance to the daily life of most Muslims. The significance of the lunar calendar has decreased in present day. Today, the Islamic calendar is used soley for religious reasons by determining the correct religious celebratory dates and public events in Muslim countries. Since it is a pure lunar calendar, it cannot be used in daily life in agriculture or government purposes.. Historically, Muslim communities have used alternative calendars for these purposes.

The lunar calendar is followed by different people for different reasons. Scientists and astronomers believe the lunar calendar can tell us many things about the way living things will feel and act. Studies have shown that the moon affects the way people behave. Animals are affected by the lunar calendar also. A certain type of edible worm is known to swarm on beaches of the Banks Islands during the last quarter of the lunar month. Their reproductive cycle is in sync with the moons cycle. No one knows for sure why the moons cycle affects womens’ cycles but it does. The calendar westerners have started using doesn’t help chart womens’ cycles as the lunar calendar does. Stargazers can ensure that they go out when the moon is the darkest and shows up as a new moon. This allows all of the stars in the sky to shine brightest and allows you to really have a good glimpse of the sky providing that you are in an area that does not have light pollution. Lunar calendars are extremely useful in providing you times to go out and see the stars when they are most likely to be visible in the sky. You will want to make sure that you go out on the clearest of nights when the moon will not steal the focus.

The origin of the lunar calendar is based on the various cycles that can be seen while watching the moon. These cycles are an effective way to follow the lunar calendar and can be traced to its origin. Learning about the lunar calendar can be an effective way to tie the history of it together.

There are many people that are interested in the lunar calendar, the types of calendars which are based on it and the origin of the system. Much research has been completed into the origin of the calendar and we have been able to trace the origin to the cycles and phases that occur within the moon, hence the name, lunar calendar.

The calendar that our current calendars are based on is the solar calendar. There is one main difference between the two. In the solar year there are 365 days, while in the lunar year there are nearly two weeks less, with 354 days.

There are certain instances in which the lunar calendar is still put into place. This is usually done through various religions, such as Islam, where the lunar calendar is used to keep track of events within the religion as well as events within the community. As these events are often based upon the lunar calendar but exist within the solar calendar, the dates may change from year to year, with the date each year becoming earlier and earlier until a full cycle has been created.

As the dates change from year to year, this means that the first day of the lunar year also changes from year to year. Although the average month within the lunar calendar has been stated to be about 29.5 days, there are times when the lunar calendar reaches a similar time to the solar calendar, approximately every twenty-three years.

On the fourth, there will be a full moon. On the twelfth, there will be a waning moon. On the eighteenth, there will be a new moon. On the twenty-sixth, there will be a waxing moon.
