There is a lot to know about the moon and how is reflects the sun, moves across the sky in orbit and changes visually every few days. The lunar phase calendar is something that has been used by man for centuries and it is said to have started with the chinese over fifteen hundred years ago. The lunar phase calendar is a calendar that is based on the rotation of the moon and its lunar phase. The calendar is different each month because the days of the month do not coincide with the moon being full or new.

The lunar phase calendar will start on a different cycle depending on the day of the month that it is. For the Chinese lunar calendar the month starts on the new moon which is when the moon is darkest in the sky. Other races and religions believe that the lunar calendar starts when the moon is full and is brightest in the sky. These particular lunar calendars are also known as lunisolar calendars.

Islam is the religion which uses the lunar calendar most by people today and in this religion it is known as the Islamic Calendar. However scientists have found fault with this calendar as it moves out of alignment each solar year when up to 10 days are lost in relation to other calendars. The Islamic Calendar is generally used for religious reasons more than for telling dates and seasons.

For centuries, the moon has been a source of comfort to many. It was seen as a sort of guardian that watched over the earth when the sun had gone away, and would relinquish his guardianship once day came back again. We now also know that the moon is incredibly important for our wellbeing on earth; without the gravitational attraction of the moon our planet would not have formed in the shape it is now; indeed the moon plays a massive part in stabilizing the motion of the earth as it passes through space. The moon also plays a part in the sea tides; determining when the tide goes in and out. However, its main purpose for millennia has been as a time keeping device.

The lunar cycle is 28 days long; exactly 4 weeks and goes from full moon, to no moon to full moon in that time. The reason this occurs is because the moon passes into the earth’s shadow gradually slowly obscuring itself. This process has taken place since time began with exactly the same regularity. Because of this the moon is an excellent device for telling the time of the month and was the world’s first calendar. In the days of sacrifices it was the cycle of the moon that determined when the animals (or humans) would be sacrificed. Nowadays of course, it plays a much smaller role, yet the lunar cycle still manages to amaze children every day; all marveling at how it seems to change its shape.

The lunar calendar is used because of the lunar phase and the cycles from those phases are what they base the calendar on. It is known more for being the Islamic calendar or either the Hijri calendar. This calendar always has 12 months in it. This calendar is mainly used for religious reasons and can be used for other reasons such as for commercial which is what Saudi Arabia often uses it for. It is a face that these calendars is the lunisolar calendar, meaning that the lunar cycle is kept by months and then the months that would be intercalary would go in synchronization with solar years. The days in the lunar calendar is usually 354.37 days.

The Hindu, Hebrew, and the Chinese also use the lunar calendar with antiquity. The start of the lunar month varies depending on what calendar is being used. The full moon is the start of a new month for the Hindu but the Hebrew uses the lunar crescent for the new month. The Chinese calendar uses the new moon for the first day of the month.

Another thing that actually varies is the length with the lunar month. Most months have at least 29 to 30 days in them depending on the moon and other things. A full and hollow month is the factor used to determine the length of the month. Whatever calendar is being used things change each year and that is why you always have to buy a new calendar when the year ends.

Before the Chinese adapted the westernized calendar they actually had their own lunar calendar that planned out their whole way of life. From planting to harvesting the crops all the way to their festivals, China utilized the Chinese lunar calendar for these events. Even today China’s still uses the lunar calendar in conjunction to the Western calendar.

So what exactly is a lunar month? A lunar month is basically determined by measuring the period of time that is allowed for the moment to finish its full cycle of 29 1/2 days. In lunar time 12 lunar months are separated into 24 solar splits characterized by the four seasons. This was very vital to the Chinese when it came to agricultural harvesting and farm work.

A quick fun fact. Did you know that the Chinese actually used a lunar calendar to predict baby genders? Even though most Westerners don’t really believe in this notion this is something that the people in China believe almost wholeheartedly and have for over 700 years now. So if you really want to guess the gender of your newborn baby this may be a fun thing that you can look into.

At the newly lunar year the Chinese symbolize it as a past time of festive fun and cultural acknowledgment. From wild colors, fireworks, and ancient dances, the newly lunar year is held closely to the heart of many Chinese people and have so for hundreds of years. The new lunar year is considered a time of piece and a brand-new start to life for many.

Lunar Calendar 2010

Calendars play an important role in our daily lives. We use them to not only keep track of the date and the day, but also to keep track of all of the important days that we encounter throughout the year. Many people use them to make sure they don’t miss appointments and even to visually see when they will be able to move things around in an emergency. However, there is no other calendar that dates as far back as the lunar calendar.

Everyone knows that we generally have one full moon per month and that it is nearly as illuminating as a setting sun on that day; few people realize how often we use the moon in our daily lives in science as well as mythology. For these reasons it’s important to be able to interpret the moon signs on a calendar.

When looking a lunar calendar it can be confusing with the terminology and the symbols assigned to mean a certain aspect of the lunar cycle. As is the case with the calendar above, there is usually a legend that will tell you what each part means. This eliminates some confusion and just leaves you responsible for interpreting the terminology.

During the beginning of the cycle the moon will be waxing, or becoming more visible, every day. This is signified by a dark semi-circle in one direction leaving the other direction open for the waning (shrinking) moon symbol. These two are very similar and it’s important to understand which each one is, even if you have to write it down on the calendar itself, so that you can interpret a lunar calendar. The full moon is generally signified by the darkest or most visible full circle on the calendar, as opposed to a new moon (when the moon isn’t visible at all) which will generally be the lightest and least visible full circle.

The Islamic calendar, also known as the Muslim or Hijiri calendar, is the only widespread calendar used today that is a true lunar calendar. This means it is a calendar based off of 12 lunar months with 354 or 255 days in a year. It is used by Muslims all around the world to determine the Islamic days of holiness and other traditional Islamic festivals. The first year on the Islamic calendar was the year in which the profhet Muhammad emigrated from Mecca to Medina, known as the Hijira. Currently, the Islamic calendar is on year 1431.

The twelve lunar months of the Islamic calendar are Muharram, Safar, Rabi’al-awwal, Rabi’ al-thani, Jumada al-Ula, Jumada al-Thani, Rjab, Sha’aban, Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhua al-Qui’dah, and Dua al-Hijjah. Of these twelve months, Ramadan is the most recognized and is a time in which Muslims go without eating, drinking, and sexual activity during the daylight of each day of the month.

The Islamic lunar calendar used to have great significance to the daily life of most Muslims. The significance of the lunar calendar has decreased in present day. Today, the Islamic calendar is used soley for religious reasons by determining the correct religious celebratory dates and public events in Muslim countries. Since it is a pure lunar calendar, it cannot be used in daily life in agriculture or government purposes.. Historically, Muslim communities have used alternative calendars for these purposes.

Each person in the world is free to believe whatever they want. You are free to worship whoever you’d like and follow whatever lifestyle you’d like. People beliefs differ when it comes to astronomy, astrology, and related topics.

The lunar calendar is followed by different people for different reasons. Scientists and astronomers believe the lunar calendar can tell us many things about the way living things will feel and act. Studies have shown that the moon affects the way people behave. Animals are affected by the lunar calendar also. A certain type of edible worm is known to swarm on beaches of the Banks Islands during the last quarter of the lunar month. Their reproductive cycle is in sync with the moons cycle. As the moon goes through it’s phases we can visibly see the changes. The new moon, crescent moon, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, another crescent, and then another new moon complete the phases of the lunar cycle.

For thousands of years women have used lunar calendars to chart their menstrual cycles. This particular lunar calendar consisted of 13 lunar months containing 28 days each. No one knows for sure why the moons cycle affects womens’ cycles but it does. The calendar westerners have started using doesn’t help chart womens’ cycles as the lunar calendar does. If you are a woman having trouble charting your flow pay more attention to the lunar calendar and you’ll have a better idea when things will happen in your cycle.

Lunar Calendars for Conception

Filed under: Lunar Calendar - 09 Jan 2010  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

The lunar calendar is sacred to many respects and one of the reasons why it is used is to track conception cycles. Many women have their period cycle sync up with the lunar calendar and it is very easy to calculate when it is the best time to conceive a child and they could use this to get pregnant with higher accuracy. The average feminine cycle lasts 28 days and that is the same as a lunar cycle which is easily followed with a lunar calendar. These lunar calendars are revered to be some of the best methods of conception known to man as some women swear their conception success to a lunar calendar.

The process to use the calendar for conception is simple. Simply having an awareness of the moon phases and their current states is a great way to stay active towards conceiving. Most women who have their most fertile periods during a full moon will often conceive whether it is supernatural or not. One of the easier explanations for this is the fact that the calendar helps to show when the full moon will be out. The full moon dates on the calendar will also be the days where gravity forces will usually be shifted towards better conception possibilities. The real problem that some women may experience is through irregular cycles that may throw them off of their conception attempts. It is important to note that these options for conception through lunar calendars are useful, they may not always work out for everyone!

The Advantages of Having a Lunar Calendar

Filed under: Lunar Calendar - 04 Aug 2009  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

There are many different reasons to have a lunar calendar. There are many people who perform rituals that require the moon to be in certain stages to be effective if at all possible. Many women like to believe that their menstrual cycles have something to do with how the moon interacts with gravity and everything around them to rely on conceiving their children. Although these and many other moon specific events do occur and many people use lunar calendars for specific reasons such as these there are plenty of different advantages of having a lunar calendar.

Some of the advantages for hunters knowing the exact type of moon that will be out will allow them to see better at night. Those who use the moon to illuminate their surroundings will be able to tell when the best nights to hunt are during full moons or near these times. There are little to no animals that do not come out during full moons and hunting is usually a success if you know how to stalk your prey during a full moon. Other advantages of lunar calendars are more appropriate for stargazers and various other people.

Stargazers can ensure that they go out when the moon is the darkest and shows up as a new moon. This allows all of the stars in the sky to shine brightest and allows you to really have a good glimpse of the sky providing that you are in an area that does not have light pollution. Lunar calendars are extremely useful in providing you times to go out and see the stars when they are most likely to be visible in the sky. You will want to make sure that you go out on the clearest of nights when the moon will not steal the focus.

Learn About the Lunar Calendar

Filed under: Lunar Calendar  -    Pinned  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

The origin of the lunar calendar is based on the various cycles that can be seen while watching the moon. These cycles are an effective way to follow the lunar calendar and can be traced to its origin. Learning about the lunar calendar can be an effective way to tie the history of it together.

There are many people that are interested in the lunar calendar, the types of calendars which are based on it and the origin of the system. Much research has been completed into the origin of the calendar and we have been able to trace the origin to the cycles and phases that occur within the moon, hence the name, lunar calendar.

The calendar that our current calendars are based on is the solar calendar. There is one main difference between the two. In the solar year there are 365 days, while in the lunar year there are nearly two weeks less, with 354 days.

There are certain instances in which the lunar calendar is still put into place. This is usually done through various religions, such as Islam, where the lunar calendar is used to keep track of events within the religion as well as events within the community. As these events are often based upon the lunar calendar but exist within the solar calendar, the dates may change from year to year, with the date each year becoming earlier and earlier until a full cycle has been created.

As the dates change from year to year, this means that the first day of the lunar year also changes from year to year. Although the average month within the lunar calendar has been stated to be about 29.5 days, there are times when the lunar calendar reaches a similar time to the solar calendar, approximately every twenty-three years.
